Prison of Technology

We now live in a technology-driven world, where our lives can’t be run without these machines. Almost everyone in a typical society has access to television or the internet. We rely on technology for many things and it has easily taken over our lives. These devices are a negative influence on us because they separate individuals from reality. It is clear that people become brainwashed in today’s generation of technology, having a negative effect on many. During the course of our lives some people have lost the value of nature, reality and face-to-face communication, through technology.

The image (right) portrays a man sitting on his couch with a speech bubble above his head stating, “Nothing really interesting today on Tv…” meanwhile outside his window there is a beautiful sunset, mountains and trees. Inside his home it is black and white and outside it is colourful, showing how this man has completely separated himself from reality and doesn’t even acknowledge the beauty of nature because he is so wrapped up in what is on his television. This man in the image has isolated himself from infinite opportunities outside of his living room because of technology.

This photograph (right) is the inside of an iPhone drawn as a prison. When in a prison, people are taken away from the real world and are trapped. The jail demonstrates how we are trapped in this world of social media. By being trapped in the world of social media we are away from reality, unable to view what is really going on, outside of what's on our phones. In the image the colours are dull and the phone is small showing how we are trapped in the prison of technology, separated from this big, bright world that we live in and have chosen to ignore.

Face-to-face communication is important in maintaining healthy relationships in life. This image (right) displays a young couple embracing but looking on their phones over each others shoulder. It seems as though face-to-face communication has become difficult for this couple because they are so used to using their cellular devices. The couples have blank expressions on their face demonstrating that even though they are in each others arms they are more interested in their phones and find more comfort there.

Technology can be extremely useful, but also has many negative aspects. It can affect our relationships and how we view nature and reality. These devices remove so many people from the real world, making some blind to what's more important such as, what's outside of our homes, or outside of our phones.

  1. This has been my favorite blog of the day simply because of the overall meaning of the blog and it is truthful. All three of the images really caught my eyes but the one that stood out to me the most is the 'Phone' one. This image made me think and realized how it perfectly portrayed our relationships with our phones in this generation. The image consists of an "Iphone", which makes it even meaningful because phones are so personalized now and they represent an individual prison in this image.
Overall the blog captured my attention since the title.
    Good job Sam

  2. I agree with your opinion, Sam. I am obsessed with my phone and i need to learn to remind myself that its not the most important aspect of my life. There's a lot of aspects of reality that I don't take part in because I prioritize my phone over spending time with my family or going outside for a walk. I think a majority of teenagers and adults are caught up in this problem. They miss opportunities by focusing on whats on their phones which can really negatively affect their lives. Do you think if this issue was outlined more often that people would actually try not to use their technology as much? I believe that if this issue isn't eventually addressed, that ALL people will not go outside or value nature and talking face to face and that the only relationships that exist will be through social media and cell phone and computers.

  3. This blog really caught my eye. The truth is that everyone is addicted to there cell phones and would rather sit at home with their friends and be on their phone, then go out and do something outside. The three images that you used were very well picked because they all have truth behind them. The picture with the couple on their phones is very powerful and i think people should pay more attention to their person then to their cell phones because no relationship can be good, if you are not interested in each other. Cell phone take over our lives with apps and social media. When in the olden days, kids were playing outside and had no phones and were forced to go play with their friends. Do you think that our generation would be smarter if we were not on our phones all the time? Think about how many kids are on their cell phones during class and not paying attention or doing their work. Kids refuse to do homework because they would rather be on the computer or their phones and get distracted with the technology. I think that our biggest issue is the technology and how it runs our lives and if we dont start to do something about it, as the years go by, it will only get worse.
