Feminism

"Feminists: a person who believes in the social, political, and economic equality of all sexes" -Beyonce, Beyonce states this quote in very popular song about feminism called "Flawless". Even though the aim is to define, establish and defend equal political, economic, cultural and social rights for women men don't always respect that and think they are still superior to women. Men have a crazy idea that women should be so many thing expect for the things that they want to be.

In today's society women and just people in general are judged so much
on what they have and the way they look. This comic is about six different women who live completely different lives but they all have one thing in common, they've all been objectified by men because they aren't everything that they want them to be. These women may be enough for themselves but they aren't enough for these men. This comic shows that each of these women will never be able to be all the things men want because once they change to please a man they are told to change again. The bottom of this comic says "Feminisms being free to decide who i want to be and how to act. It's not a shame to demand respect" it says this because most women won't stand up for themselves and are just ashamed of themselves when they aren't enough for a man but they should demand respect from men for who they are because who they are is enough.

This is a photo by a first year student in Vancouver named Rosea Lake. Lake made this photo for an art class in highschool then decided to post it on Tumblr and it went viral. The idea of this photo is to show how the way a women dresses makes men will automatically discount them as a person because of the way they dress and how they don't give them the chance to be someone in their eyes. Each mark shows what a women may be interpreted as to a man. The idea of this image is to show how ridiculous it is that women can't dress the way they want without men having an opinion on it.

Women have always been seen as inferior to men in the workforce even though so many women have done amazing things for this country they are still looked down on.
In this image you can see Lauren Conrad being interviewed on a radio show. Lauren is asked "what's your favourite position?" expecting a sexual answer but lauren answers "CEO" without even thinking. Lauren answers with this because she's always asked these questions as a woman and she thinks women need to stop being sexualized by men so much because women can do anything that a man can do but aren't always treated like they can.

  1. Im really intrigued by this topic Taylor, its a strong topic with a powerful message. I love the idea you are trying to put across, that women can't do certain things in life with out being targeted by men. The idea that women can't act or dress a certain way without getting negative comments towards them is really sad to think about. The photo i think that the last two photos in your essay are the most powerful because they convey the strongest messages. The second photo shows the comments a girl can recieve if she wears her shorts or skirt at a particular level. The fact that a man could even say that a girl was "asking for it" is revolting because females should feel comfortable wearing what ever they would like without expecting some sort of harassment. The third photo also conveys a strong message because the interviewer is assuming it is okay to ask a female he barely knows on a personal level a question that is obviously steered toward her sex life but she is classy, smart and courageous enough to not answer the question the way she knows it supposed to be answered. Instead she replies with "CEO" to show that females are capable of more then just having sex. I love your use and choice of your photos, you clearly got your point across. Your photos you chose were perfect for the point you were trying to get across. I really enjoyed this essay because i am a firm believer on treating girls how you would want another guy to treat your sister or mother.
Great Job on the essay, I could clearly understand everything you were trying to say and i completely agree with everything. Could have written it better myself.

  2. Good job Taylor, I really enjoyed reading your blog post. This topic is something very important in the generation we live in. It is crazy to me that this is even a topic and that lots of men treat women as if they are objects or sexualize them. I agree with you on the second image of the girl's legs, it is ridiculous that woman get judged for the clothes they wear. I believe that everyone should dress the way they dress for themselves, not for the likings of others, or fear of whether they will get judged, but I know how hard it is to do that because of how cruel some people can be. Do you believe photos like this will make men think twice before judging a woman on her choices in clothing? Very good photo choice! I also love the final photo on your post. It shows how some men really view woman and it shows how brave this woman is for coming up with such an amazing and clever answer to a degrading question, that should have never been asked. Very impressed with your topic selection, photos and explanations.
